085 St Simon and St Jude
Sentence: Jesus said, "You did not choose me, but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should abide." John 15:16
Collect: Almighty God, you have built your Church on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Jesus Christ himself as the chief cornerstone: we thank you for the apostles Simon and Jude, and we pray that we may reveal your love and mercy, and being joined in unity of spirit may grow into a holy temple, acceptable to you; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen
Moses said: Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak; let the earth hear the words of my mouth. May my teaching drop like the rain, my speech condense like the dew; like gentle rain on grass, like showers on new growth. For I will proclaim the name of the LORD; ascribe greatness to our God! The Rock, his work is perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God, without deceit, just and upright is he.
Hear the word of the Lord, thanks be to God.
Psalm 19:1-6 APBA p 239
1. The heavens declare the glory of God:
and the firmament proclaims his handiwork;
2. One day tells it to another:
and night to night communicates knowledge.
3. There is no speech or language:
nor are their voices heard;
4. Yet their sound has gone out through all the world:
and their words to the ends of the earth.
5. There he has pitched a tent for the sun:
which comes out as a bridegroom from his chamber, and rejoices like a strong man to run his course.
6. Its rising is at one end of the heavens, and its circuit to their farthest bound:
and nothing is hidden from its heat.
Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James, To those who are called, who are beloved in God the Father and kept safe for Jesus Christ: May mercy, peace, and love be yours in abundance. Beloved, while eagerly preparing to write to you about the salvation we share, I find it necessary to write and appeal to you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints. You, beloved, must remember the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; for they said to you, "In the last time there will be scoffers, indulging their own ungodly lusts." It is these worldly people, devoid of the Spirit, who are causing divisions. But you, beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit; keep yourselves in the love of God; look forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. And have mercy on some who are wavering; save others by snatching them out of the fire; and have mercy on still others with fear, hating even the tunic defiled by their bodies. Now to him who is able to keep you from falling, and to make you stand without blemish in the presence of his glory with rejoicing, to the only God our Saviour, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, power, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen. Hear the word of the Lord, thanks be to God.
The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke chapter 6, beginning at verse 12
...Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ.
Now during those days Jesus went out to the mountain to pray; and he spent the night in prayer to God. And when day came, he called his disciples and chose twelve of them, whom he also named apostles: Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew, and James, and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James son of Alphaeus, and Simon, who was called the Zealot, and Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor. For the Gospel of the Lord, praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.
