083 St Michael and All Angels
Sentence: And all the angels sang, "Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honour and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen."
Collect: Almighty God, you govern the courses of this world by means to wonderful for us to comprehend: give us reverence before the mysteries of your providence, and grace to know the messengers of your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Everlasting God, you have ordained and constituted in a wonderful order the ministries of angels and mortals: grant that, as your holy angels stand before you in heaven, so at your command they may help and defend us here on earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
As I watched, thrones were set in place, and an Ancient One took his throne, his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames, and its wheels were burning fire. A stream of fire issued and flowed out from his presence. A thousand thousands served him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood attending him. The court sat in judgment, and the books were opened. As I watched in the night visions, I saw one like a human being coming with the clouds of heaven. And he came to the Ancient One and was presented before him. To him was given dominion and glory and kingship, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not pass away, and his kingship is one that shall never be destroyed. Hear the word of the Lord, thanks be to God.
Psalm 138 APBA p 369
1. I will give you thanks, O LORD, with my whole heart:
even before the gods will I sing your praises.
2. I will bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name:
because of your faithfulness and your loving kindness, for you have made your name and your word supreme over all things.
3. At a time when I called to you, you gave me answer:
and put new strength within my soul.
4. All the kings of the earth shall praise you, O LORD:
for they have heard the words of your mouth;
5. And they shall sing of the ways of the LORD:
that the glory of the LORD is great.
6. For though the LORD is exalted, he looks upon the lowly:
and he comprehends the proud from afar.
7. Though I walk in the midst of danger, yet will you preserve my life:
you will stretch out your hand against the fury of my enemies, and your right hand shall save me.
8. The LORD will complete his purpose for me:
your loving kindness, O LORD, endures for ever; do not forsake the work of your own hands.
War broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels fought against the dragon. The dragon and his angels fought back, but they were defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. The great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world -- he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, proclaiming, "Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Messiah, for the accuser of our comrades has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. But they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they did not cling to life even in the face of death. Rejoice then, you heavens and those who dwell in them! Hear the word of the Lord, thanks be to God.
The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John chapter 1, beginning at verse 45
...Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ.
Philip found Nathanael and said to him, "We have found him about whom Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus son of Joseph from Nazareth." Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see." When Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, he said of him, "Here is truly an Israelite in whom there is no deceit!" Nathanael asked him, "Where did you get to know me?" Jesus answered, "I saw you under the fig tree before Philip called you." Nathanael replied, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!" Jesus answered, "Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than these." And he said to him, "Very truly, I tell you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man." For the Gospel of the Lord, praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.
